A fun and festive dessert perfect for Halloween celebrations, adorned with colorful sprinkles and delightful decorations.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk (for frosting)
  • Assorted Halloween-themed sprinkles (for decoration)
  • Optional: Halloween candies like gummy worms or chocolate ghosts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing them and dusting with flour.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Combine dry and wet ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined; be careful not to overmix.
  6. Bake the cakes: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes: Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. After that, transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Prepare the frosting: While the cakes cool, beat the softened butter until creamy, then gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla. Adjust the consistency with heavy cream until creamy and spreadable.
  9. Assemble the cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on and frost the top and sides of the cake.
  10. Decorate: Generously cover the top and sides of the cake with Halloween sprinkles and any additional candies you like.
