A comforting and flavorful dish with tender chicken simmered in a creamy, spiced tomato sauce, perfect for impressing family.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • Rice or naan, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, combine yogurt, garam masala, cumin, paprika, turmeric, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken cubes and mix well. Cover and marinate for at least 60 minutes or preferably overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. Sauté the Onions: Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent and slightly golden, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the pan. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is browned and cooked through.
  4. Add Tomato Puree: Stir in the tomato puree and let it simmer for 10 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld and develop.
  5. Incorporate Cream: Lower the heat and add heavy cream to the pan, stirring until the sauce is well mixed and heated through. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro, alongside rice or naan for a complete meal.

Notes

Marinating overnight enhances flavor and tenderness. For a spicier dish, add cayenne pepper or more garam masala.
