Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional, for added texture and flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon until well combined.
  3. Cream the butter: In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients: Add eggs and vanilla extract to the creamed butter, mixing until fully incorporated.
  5. Combine wet and dry mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Fold in diced apples, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  7. Spread the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Drizzle warm caramel sauce over the top, and sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired.
  10. Cool in the pan before cutting into squares to serve.

Notes

Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best flavor and texture. Allow bars to cool before slicing to maintain their shape.
